What the hell, lucas?
Welcome to the short stories about one of the
phrases I’ve heard most in my life.
Craziness? Maybe.
Creativity? Always.
👔 Should I update my LinkedIn?
1. I was 7 or 8 years old the first time my parents shouted it. It was the time of VHS, big mini stereo systems, large tube TVs, and “macarena” playing on the radios. Probably the 90s was the best time of all. At that age, I wanted to know and learn how everything worked. Some people got irritated by this, others liked to have company, but everyone was confused about installing all this high-tech equipment at the time. I observed carefully how the technicians or my uncle Luis, one of the most intelligent people everyone around me knew so far, connected those “audio in,” “video out,” etc. From then on, I started to be the official installer of everything in my family, but not before hearing my family’s desperate screams as they saw me moving and changing every possible wire and cable around the house.
Blockbuster’s biggest threat. 😆
2. Around the age of 11, I started in a new school doing everything I wanted: drama class, gymnastics, mountain climbing, handball, and soccer, of course. At any opportunity, my brother and I asked our parents to rent movies or cartoons on VHS.
We always returned the videotapes late, so my parents were always angry about paying those hefty fines. Since we had an extensive collection of them at home, I had this insight and created my first “business”: Mega Luz Videos (something like ‘mega light videos’ in English). Everyone could watch movies and cartoons without worrying about video store fines, so I rented tapes from our family collection to people that I knew with a 1-week-return period. Something unusual at the time. I charged BR$10 (U$5 at that time) per rental; it was more expensive than usual but cheaper than paying any fine for late returns elsewhere. I used my father’s old briefcase to deliver them to my “clients.”
What expect from a 11-years-old kid? Well, a couple of “What the hell, Lucas?”.
Unboxing my randomnesses. 🫠
3. Wel, I know I’ve done many unpredictable things. Here is a list with more of them.
I’ve already taken several courses, such as Barista, Swedish Massage, and How to Write Children’s Books. Unusual? Maybe. I also studied at 7 different schools until I graduated from high school. I’ve been in a few hardcore bands and had more than 20k downloads between 2003 and 2009, only recording my songs alone in my room. I’ve also lived for
6 months in Australia, 3 months in Paris, 3 months in New York, and 5 months in Italy.
There is more. I only decided to become a copywriter when I was 21. The first few times I showed my portfolio to other creatives, it just had technology ideas. One of those ideas was a sneaker insole project with piezoelectricity and Bluetooth for Nike to track older people with Alzheimer’s to not get lost while practicing sports—something proven to help treat and prevent the disease. I’m still looking forward to being a part of it.
Thank you. 🫰
